Document ID: M17-CERT-001-D1
Audience: First-time customer using one Windows PC
Last updated: 2026-08-12
Applies to: Jakten Platform 2.0
> If two or more people will work from separate PCs, use Choose Your Deployment and the Office Deployment Guide. Activate once on the office server, not on each workstation.
1. Before you begin
Have the following ready:
- A 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC
- The current Jakten Platform Setup download
- Your activation key
- Internet access for activation and update checks
- The company name and administrator email you will use
The suite installer contains Platform and its bundled product applications. Your subscription and named-user seats determine which products you can open.
2. Install Platform
- Download the installer from the secure link in your onboarding message.
- Run the installer and complete the Windows setup wizard.
- Open Jakten Platform.
- On the deployment screen, choose the single-computer/local option.
- Continue to first administrator setup.
If Windows blocks the installer, verify its publisher and hash using the information supplied by Jakten before continuing.
3. Create the company and first administrator
Enter the company name, administrator display name, work email, and a password that meets the on-screen policy. Complete setup, then sign in with that account.
Keep the administrator credentials and activation key in your organization's approved password or secrets manager.
4. Activate the subscription
- Open Administration → Licensing.
- Enter the activation key under Activate subscription.
- Select Activate with key.
- Accept current legal terms when prompted.
- Confirm the status is Active and operational mode is Normal.
Activation is performed once for this PC. Do not activate another isolated install with the same key unless Jakten support directs you to recover or replace the deployment.
5. Enable products and confirm your seats
- Open Administration → Products.
- Enable each licensed product you plan to use, such as Jakten Risk or Jakten Assurance.
- Open Administration → Licensing → Seats.
- Confirm the administrator has the required paid product seats.
Platform entitlement is derived automatically from paid product seats. You do not assign a separate paid Platform seat.
6. Review company standards
Open Administration → Standards. Confirm a published WBS library is available before project creation. For Estimate use, also review units of measure, cost types, disciplines, company metrics, and Project Drivers.
Activation may provide a starter WBS library. Treat it as a starting point and publish company-specific revisions deliberately.
7. Create the first project
- Select Projects from the left navigation.
- Select Create Project.
- Enter the project details and choose a published WBS version.
- Save and open the project.
- On Overview, assign and activate the licensed product workspaces.
- Create or select a working Estimate Version.
The selected Estimate Version is the context opened by both Risk and Estimate.
8. Open your product
- Select Risk to model uncertainty, dependencies, risks, events, simulations, and reports.
- Select Estimate to manage packages, commercial workflow, changes, reviews, the Living BoE, and delivery.
Use Back to Platform to change the project or selected Estimate Version.
9. Protect and maintain the deployment
- Open About & Deployment and confirm Deployment Health.
- Follow the Backup and Recovery guide to protect Platform, Estimate, and Risk stores together.
- Check for updates from About & Deployment; Platform never installs them automatically.
- Keep enough free disk space for imports, simulations, reports, and backups.
